The Prophets Biography

Pete Mossop and Steve Tyson formed 4721 Archer in 1995 along with Vicky Tyson (Steves sister) and old school friend Damien Roberts. The band felt that at the time there were loads of bands but very few bands that were able to write 'tunes'.

4721 Archer spent all summer rehearsing in and writing material in Ste's garage, at the end of the summer they performed thier set to Mr Tyson who considered it to be shite. 4721 Archer made a hasty retreat into the garage again for a another couple of months. It was during this period that they wrote there first 'proper' songs that would eventually be played at their first gig in Barrow park.

Damien Roberts left the band shortly after the first gig, and the band revcruited Scott Ellemore on bass guitar and continued to gig and record regularly over the years

Scott eventually decided that he'd had enough so the band persuaded Martin Dubka to take his place. The arrival of Martin marked a change in sound for 4721 Archer and songs such as The Ocean and Stars were replaced with the likes of Good times and So easy which had a more dancy feel. Over the next year or so the band played a number of high profile gis including: Forum 28, Stockport Uni, , Morecambe platform to name a few

Martin Dubka and Vicky Tyson left the band in 1999.

Ste and Pete called it a day with 4721 Archer but soon recruited Drew Horner, Scott Ellemore and Nat Whitworth and formed The Prophets. It was decided early on that we should  try and get back to our roots with our songs which we did and have done to this day. The first Prophets recording session yielded a 5 track Ep (which was released along with the aborted 4721 album)on CD. Title track 'built to fall' made number one on the Southlakes download chart three times.

The Prophets have recorded two albums (Using thier own home studio) since the first EP and are currently in the process of recording their third album.

Band interview: Scott Ellemore - Drummer

Question: How old where You when You first started drumming and why did You decide to take up the drums?

Scott: I was ten when I started drumming on my Mams pots and pans. I took up drumming because I like beats and rhythms.

Qusetion: Whats your favourite Prophets song and why?

Scott: Buttercups and Daisies, because of its time signiture and melody.

Question: Why have You stuck with the Prophets for as long as You have?

Scott (chuckling and slavering) because no one else will have me

Question: What is your all time favourite Prophets gig?

Scott: You'll have to ask Ste.

Question: What is your worst ever Prophets gig?

Scott: When I got battered at Forum 28 live challenge. Somebody came up to me and called me ginger so i hit them over the head with a vase, They then knocked my f***ing teeth out. That was just a weird gig. Strange. I thought goths would like something different.

* Scott was not actually in the Prophets at the time as he had been thrown out, he was however playing bass for the Magic Toyshop at the same gig as The Prophets.
