The Prophets Recordings

The Prophets are currently working on what is to be their third album. The band is hoping to go into a local studio to record four or five songs in the next couple of months, these recordings will be released as a promotional EP in the Spring. Depending on the outcome of the studio recordings the band than intend on recording their third full album either at home (as with the last two albums) or in the recording studio used for the EP.

For updates on how the home recording process is going scroll down to the bands 'Making an album' diary below.

Prophets begin work on Third album

The Prophets started demoing songs for thier third album last Saturday. The band as always are recording the tracks at Petes home recording studio in Dalton.

The albums opening two tracks were completed on Saturday and according to the band the demo's will be a template for a grander scale electric recording in the near future.

The two tracks recorded on Saturday were an extended version of 'Let the end begin' and 'Life on Earth'. The band also recorded an instrumental version of 'Stood on the outside'

January 2005.

The Prophets have recently completed demoing the tracks ' Back of my mind', Sunday Morning and have started to rehearse 'Sail upon the Ocean' and Carry me down'

March 2005:

Since the last posting the band have put down demo versions of 'Set me free' along with 'After all' which includes a trumpet part by Vick Tyson (which took six hours to record!)

Stood on the outside (with vocals and stick loops) along with 'Sail upon the ocean' and 'carry me down' have since been demo'd properly.

Following a songwriting session on Saturday at Pete's two new songs were written 'I'll go my way' and 'leaving in the morning'. 'I'll go my way' sounds influenced by the early Who with a bit of La's thrown in for good measure.

The Prophets Gig Reveiw: Eclectic Bar, Kendal - Thursday, September 23 2004

This event marked the first in a series of gigs orgnised by David Martindale to promote a compilation CD of local original music.

First up on the night was danny from Pitchfork disney who performed a set of original material along with a cracking cover of 'Andmoreagain' originally from the Love classic 'Forever changes' Danny handled the song well and was well received by the crowd.

The Prophets performed a selection of tunes from their first two albums along with a few new tunes from the forthcoming third album 'Let the end begin' The band premiered a new track 'Back of my mind' as a finale to thier set.

Finally an acoustic version of Carpathia closed the night on a high note with Tony on acoustic guitar and rico on electric bass. I cant remember but I think Rico took lead vocals on the Jimi Hendrix classic 'Fire' which went down well with the crowd.

All in all the night was a certainly a break from the mundane venues that many local bands tend to struggle to break out of. The Manager seemed really into the music and allthough the venue seemed to be aimed more at DJ events I would recommend it would be worth a visit from bands in the area that are comfortable at playing acoustic sets.

The Prophets have contributed the track Holdin' On to the compilation.

G'DAY MATE!: Potter in action at the Cav

September marks the departure of The Prophets bass player Matt Potter, who is moving on to bigger things Down Under.

Matt has been an influential member of the band for the past two years. Vocalist Steve Tyson says "It's been a pleasure working with Matt for the past two years and his unique and sometimes amusing slant on life has added a new depth to the band. He's the only person I know who considers Sting superior to Lou Reed!"

If Matt ever decides to return, he will always be a welcome member of the Prophets.
